SYN:
In this short, the Stooges wind
up as Census takers when they cut into a job line in an effort to
dodge the cops. They figure since they already have the job, they
might as well get rich taking the census (compliments of Curly's miscalculating
internal cash machine). As Census takers, they crash an affluent woman's
bridge party, with Moe and Larry joining in the group of players.
In the meantime, Curly is mixing up some punch in the kitchen, adding
alum instead of sugar by mistake. The Stooges are introduced to the
door when the women, with their alum-puckered lips, are humiliated
since they can't speak. Still convinced that they can get rich with
this new "Census" gig, they hear the roar of a nearby football
stadium. The Stooges, sneak in, and start taking census of the team
themselves when they realize that will be the only way to get anyone's
attention in the place. The plan backfires when the Stooges interfere
with the game and steal the football in an attempt to secure the attention
of the players. Curly steals an ice cream vendor's wagon, and the
boys make a hasty escape from an angry mob of players and fans.

Did you know that Curly's Thanksgiving
remark alludes to the 1939 law establishing Thanksgiving as a legal
holiday to be celebrated on a Thursday?

The Stooges also play census takers in Don't Throw That Knife
(5/3/51).
